Another Trip To Children's

Last night Carson and Chandler were wrestling and goofing around like all boys do and Carson fell to the ground. He immediately started crying. Charles and I ran over to him and he kept saying over and over that his arm hurt and he wanted it to work again. We thought he was just being overly dramatic but when one of us tried touching his arm he would grimace and cry even harder, so we thought it best to take him to Children's Urgent Care.

Luckily we were able to get there an hour before they closed so it wasn't too busy. The nurse came and took us back to the x-ray area. The x-ray tech had Carson sit on a stool and then he took Carson's arm and started twisting it and trying to get it in position to take an x-ray. Charles had to stand behind him and keep him from holding onto his arm with his other hand. Carson howled in pain and cried and it was all I could do to keep from crying myself. Afterwards, we were led back to a room to wait for the x-ray to be developed. The doctor came in about 10 minutes later and told us there were no breaks or fractures. We were relieved. She said it looked like from the way he was holding his arm kind of limply that he might have what's called Nursemaid's Elbow. It's caused by a sudden jerk to the forearm. Like when you pull on someone's arm. She asked if that had happened to Carson and we told her it's possible that when Chandler and Carson were wrestling, Chandler could have tugged on his arm. She said the way to fix it would be to basically pop it back into place. She took Carson's arm and as quick as she could, did so. She said she felt it pop back in. Sure enough not more than a couple minutes later, Carson's arm was fine and he was moving it normally again. She told us that since this happened to him, the chances were likely that it could happen again so he'd have to be careful. She also said that it was good that we brought him in so quickly because the longer you let it go, the harder it is to pop back into place. The nurse came back in with a popsicle and sticker and needless to say Carson was back to his old self once again.

With this latest incident, I am now officially ready for 2009 to be over with!

I'm so glad it wasn't broken or fractured. I hadn't heard about nursemaid's elbow. What a weird name that is.

I think you've met your quota this year and then some. Enough already!

I know! We thought it was a weird name too lol. I meant to look it up and see why it's called that. The only thing we could think of was back in the day when kids had nursemaid's maybe they would jerk the kids arms when they were walking and it caused that to happen. Just our guess haha.

Oh man, boys and their horse play! LOL! I'm so glad to hear that he didn't break anything, though that elbow sounds painful! Poor guy!

Ouch! So glad it wasn't actually broke. My sister has a shoulder that basically pops out at will - painful, but most of the time she can pop it back in herself. It doesn't happen too often anymore, but we had several trips to ER for it.

I'm so glad to hear it wasn;t a fracture and that Carson was back to normal in no time!

I've never heard of nurse's elbow before. I wonder why it's called that anyway...

Boys and their darn wrestling! We are always making trips to the ER with one of ours. I honestly think they know us by name (mind you we live in a very small town.)

I'm so glad it wasn't broken!

Glad he's feeling better. It's amazing how kids get hurt so much and luckily - everything's fine..
With four kids, I've seen the ER so much I should go ahead and buy their stocks.
Take care,
Jenjen
