Trick or Treat
Last night was our trick or treat night. The kids were all excited, especially Carson. Caitlyn dressed up as a cheetah, Colton was a bloody guy, Chandler was the scary guy from "Scream" and Carson was Bumblebee from Transformers.

Finding Old Friends
I finally jumped on the bandwagon and joined the rest of the world on Facebook. I can't believe how many of my old childhood friends I have been able to reconnect with! It's so strange to see how much people have changed and where their lives have taken them.
This past Saturday, Charles and I went to his 20 year high school reunion. He felt the same way about seeing some of his old friends and classmates. It was kind of funny because the room was broken up into different cliques. There was the group of cheerleaders, the group of jocks, the band people and then the rest who really didn't fit into any sort of group. I guess some things never change.
Last week we ordered Caitlyn's graduation stuff. Still so hard to believe this is her last year of high school. Last night we were at Target and she mentioned that for her 18th birthday, we should go have dinner at The Melting Pot. I looked at her and said "18th?" She looked at me puzzled. It took me a minute because for some reason I thought she was only 16. She just laughed. Either I'm in denial of her getting older or I'm getting old and can't remember things!

Another Trip To Children's
Last night Carson and Chandler were wrestling and goofing around like all boys do and Carson fell to the ground. He immediately started crying. Charles and I ran over to him and he kept saying over and over that his arm hurt and he wanted it to work again. We thought he was just being overly dramatic but when one of us tried touching his arm he would grimace and cry even harder, so we thought it best to take him to Children's Urgent Care.
Luckily we were able to get there an hour before they closed so it wasn't too busy. The nurse came and took us back to the x-ray area. The x-ray tech had Carson sit on a stool and then he took Carson's arm and started twisting it and trying to get it in position to take an x-ray. Charles had to stand behind him and keep him from holding onto his arm with his other hand. Carson howled in pain and cried and it was all I could do to keep from crying myself. Afterwards, we were led back to a room to wait for the x-ray to be developed. The doctor came in about 10 minutes later and told us there were no breaks or fractures. We were relieved. She said it looked like from the way he was holding his arm kind of limply that he might have what's called Nursemaid's Elbow. It's caused by a sudden jerk to the forearm. Like when you pull on someone's arm. She asked if that had happened to Carson and we told her it's possible that when Chandler and Carson were wrestling, Chandler could have tugged on his arm. She said the way to fix it would be to basically pop it back into place. She took Carson's arm and as quick as she could, did so. She said she felt it pop back in. Sure enough not more than a couple minutes later, Carson's arm was fine and he was moving it normally again. She told us that since this happened to him, the chances were likely that it could happen again so he'd have to be careful. She also said that it was good that we brought him in so quickly because the longer you let it go, the harder it is to pop back into place. The nurse came back in with a popsicle and sticker and needless to say Carson was back to his old self once again.
With this latest incident, I am now officially ready for 2009 to be over with!

Would Sending My Kids Out In Gas Masks Be Bad??
This whole flu bug/H1N1 thing has me panicking. I'm not so much worried about me and Carson catching it because we are pretty much home most of the time. It's the other four people in the household that has me worried. Caitlyn and Colton are both at the high school which has a gazillion kids and Chandler at the middle school makes me wonder what the odds are that one of them will bring it home. Not to mention Charles and all the people that filter in and out of his office.
I checked with the kids Dr. today and they have not received their shipment of shots. They don't want anyone calling their office either so now I have to check their website daily to see if and when they will receive the shots. In the meantime I have stocked up on anti-bacterial lotions and soaps and always carry wipes to wipe off carts and anything else the kids touch while we are out. I make them wash their hands a billion times as well. They are going to have permanent pruny skin! Better safe than sorry though.

I Hate Goodbyes
Mom left this morning. I was sad to see her go. While she was here, we took the kids apple picking and to Chuck E Cheese. She did all the cooking for the week and it was so nice not to have to figure out what to have for dinner. She is the best cook! I did bake some banana bread and strawberry bread for her to show my appreciation for all that she did. She loves my fresh baked breads! I hope she comes again soon. We all miss her already.

Mom and Colton scoping out the best apples.

Chandler did not understand that the objective was to PICK as many apples as he could not to EAT as many as he could!

Boys and their fascination of climbing trees!

I call him my bodyguard and what's sad is he's not even done growing yet!

Mom gets her money's worth when she picks apples!

A Visit From Mom
Yay!! Mom is coming for a visit today. Or "Oba" as the kids call her. It's japanese for grandmother or so I thought until I looked it up and found out it means Aunt. I'm on to her sneaky ways. That's ok though. I love when she comes because she spoils us all with her cooking and we always have such a great time.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a nice day because I want to go apple picking. We were supposed to go about two weeks ago but it's been so rainy and yucky.
She also told me that she will be moving back to Ohio from Chicago next year which makes me even more happy. I can't wait until she lives close by again. Her and her husband are separating and he is moving back to Japan. Business has not been too good for him lately and I think the stress has finally gotten to him. She seems to be ok with it though. He was always traveling so she was used to being alone for the most part but they were together for 20 years. She said she wants to be near me and Jaime anyway. Mom is such a strong person. I know she will be alright.

Senior Pictures
Last Saturday, we went to Dawes Arboretum so that Uncle Jaime could take Caitlyn's senior pictures. I was afraid at first that it wouldn't be a good day for it because when we woke up it was all cloudy and overcast. A couple hours later the sun came out, so it ended up being a perfect day. We got lots of great shots and Carson had a great time running around in the open areas. Luckily my brother is such a great photographer so we saved lots of money in not having to hire a professional photographer. He took some black and whites and also color on a traditional camera. These pictures are ones I took on my digital.

A Day at the Zoo
Yesterday, Caitlyn, Carson and I went to the zoo. Caitlyn had a school assignment for her Zoology class and it was a perfect day, so we headed on over. Carson was so excited. His most favorite part was the aquarium. I think he would spend the whole day in there if he could. Caitlyn had a good time. It was good to see her laughing and smiling and having fun with Carson. I think it helped take her mind off things.
Of course no trip for our family would be complete without some sort of incident. Carson got stung by a bee. We now know that three of the four kids are not allergic to bee stings. Colton is the only one who hasn't been stung and Charles and I said he will probably be the one that is allergic!
Carson cried for about five minutes and then I bought him a giant soft pretzel (his favorite) and all was well again. The rest of the day went without anymore incidents.
My favorites are always the monkeys. I love their personalities. There was one particular one that was sitting next to the glass. Carson had crouched down in front of him and was talking to him and all of a sudden the monkey went crazy and was trying to swat at Carson. Luckily there was glass in between. Then another monkey came over and they were both staring Carson down and making all kinds of face and hand gestures. It was so funny. Everyone around was laughing. Carson at first was scared but then he started laughing too. When we got home, Charles asked him if he had fun at the zoo and Carson said "A monkey tried to kill me." I had to explain to Charles what happened and he laughed.
Here is the monkey.

A Step Backwards
We found out yesterday that the person responsible for what happened to Caitlyn took his own life. It was a shock to say the least. Apparently this was not the first time he had been a suspect and he had other issues going on in his life.
Caitlyn took the news hard. We once again had to reassure her that she could not blame herself. No one can be responsible for the actions of other people.
She is going through so many emotions. She feels sad, angry, and confused. She has such a kind and loving heart. She's the type of girl who when we are at the store and she sees a stuffed animal misplaced on a shelf by itself she will pick it up and move it back to where it belongs because she doesn't want it to be alone. She hates to see people eating by themselves. She wants so much to believe that there is good in people. I think we all want to believe that. It's such an endearing quality about her.
She is angry that now she doesn't get her justice. Now he will never pay for what he did. Some would argue that he got what he deserved. We however feel like we are in limbo. That it is unresolved. It is not the outcome we were hoping for and for helping us to heal. She did tell me that she is ready to go and talk to someone. I didn't want to push her until she was ready. I wanted it to be her decision. I am relieved now that she is ready and willing. I think it will help her tremendously. There is only so much I know to say to her without feeling like a broken record. I've never felt so helpless in my life. All we can do is continue to show her how much we love her and support her.
